Named after the family friend who apparently nailed chili before we did.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb ground beef (I go with 80/20)
- 10.75 oz can of tomato soup
- 15 oz can tomato sauce
- 2 cans kidney beans
- 1 cup salsa (we use what is on sale)
- ½ green pepper, chopped (we do a whole green pepper for more flavor)
- ½ onion, chopped (I like Vidalia Onions for this recipe)
- 2 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Other things you can add if you like it spicy: jalapeño, cayenne pepper, or hot sauce.
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat.
- Add in your green pepper and onion. Cook down for about 3 minutes.
- Drain excess fat.
- Turn the heat DOWN so you don’t burn the tomato soup or tomato sauce.
- Add everything else to the pot and stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat. Cover and cook for 45-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Notes
Turn the heat DOWN before adding the tomato soup and tomato sauce, otherwise your chili will have a bitter taste.
Enjoy with saltine crackers or top with sharp cheddar cheese and sour cream.
