Someone in life just learned how to do this. Slow clap. So now you can too.
Prep time: 30 seconds
Cook time: Varies (your stove, your problem)
Yield: Boiling water. Yes, that’s it.
Ingredients:
- Water
Instructions:
- Fill a pot with water. Use your eyes to judge how much you need. You’ll be fine.
- Put the pot on the stove. On a burner. This part matters.
- Turn the burner on. Medium-high to high, depending on how patient you are.
- Wait. Watching it will not speed this up, no matter what anyone tells you.
- Once big rolling bubbles show up and it’s loud and angry-looking, congratulations, that’s boiling.
- Turn it off, or use it for whatever you were boiling it for in the first place.
Notes:
- A lid speeds things up. Heat escapes less, water gets mad faster.
- Don’t walk away and forget about it. Boiling water left alone too long turns into “why is there no water in this pot and also why is the smoke alarm going off.”
Why Would You Even Want to Boil Water?
- Pasta isn’t going to cook itself, unfortunately.
- Eggs apparently need this step too.
- Sometimes you just want to watch something get violently bubbly for emotional support.
- Survival shows made it look cool and now you’re curious.
- You’re sterilizing something and don’t want to explain why.
- You read “add to boiling water” on a box and panicked because you didn’t know what that meant. No judgment. That’s literally why this page exists.
Useless But Fun Science Fact:
Water boils at a lower temperature the higher up you are. At sea level, it’s 212°F, but in Denver, it boils at around 202°F. Less pressure pushing down means it takes less heat to get those bubbles going. The catch: lower boiling temperature means food actually cooks slower up there, even though the water looks just as dramatic and bubbly. Science: ruining a perfectly simple skill since forever.
